This group show is a really strong exhibition of excellent painting consisting of around twenty five works, mostly painting with some sculptural pieces by Rosie Miller.
Each artist is represented with about three to six works each. The best examples for me are Heather Betts‘ Pivot, for its drawing qualities and application of paint, James Cochran Akira, for its radiance and iconic composition Paul Ruiz’s Still Woman, in which the interior thoughts of the sitter seem to be reflected in the interior of the room and the striking landscape by Herman Pekel, Towards Mansfield. I must admit that I was unable to select a favourite from Rosie Miller’s three exquisite paper and thread sculptures.
Information for each artwork, as in price medium and title, was presented on a tiny sticker on the wall next to the item. This felt an inadequate method of presenting the information, perhaps it would have been more effective to have the works numbered with the informaion provided on a separate sheet, as is the approach in most galleries. As well as this, the show is very well curated for the paintings at the expense of the sculpture. I had to be shown where the third sculpture was as it seemed to be completey hidden, which is unfortunate as it is remarkable work.
Lindberg is a good versatile space with lots of natural light and the quality of the work easily redeems these minor criticisms.
